Looking up ordinances easier with LUSI
|
|
News from the City Hall of Kansas City, MO
|
Monday, December 06, 2004 - Baton Rouge, LA
Because the public access version of the Legislative Update and Status Intranet (LUSI) was released today, interested parties can now visit the City Clerk’s Office online at www.kcmo.org/clerk to look at ordinances, and their status and attachments.
LUSI is the acronym for Legislative Updates and Status Intranet. This is the City Clerk’s Office’s new legislative tracking system software that tracks and stores all documents associated with City ordinances.
In 2000, ordinances were first listed online. However, the text of the ordinance was the only information available to the public online. In the fall of 2003, the City Clerk’s Office pledged to provide more information, to more people, all the time. On Oct. 18, LUSI went live internally.
One of the biggest improvements with this new system is the implementation of a paperless ordinance request process. Now approvals are done through a workflow process, and tracked electronically.
“This is a much more efficient process than having staff walk requests around from department to department,” said City Clerk Millie Crossland. “We still have paper copies of ordinances, everything in the electronic file will also be in the paper file. These are permanent records. We even scan the signed copy of the ordinance and attach it to the ordinance file.”
Ordinances can be searched for by number, subject or a word in the ordinance. The hyperlinks on committee meeting agendas will lead searchers to the ordinance status page.
Information about what will be on the City Council’s docket will be available by noon the day of the meeting, which is usually Thursday. The action taken by the City Council also can be viewed by looking at the City Council record which is published within an hour of the close of the meeting. Committee agendas are available online by Friday at noon the week before the committee meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Citizens are invited to visit the City Clerk’s Office online at www.kcmo.org/clerk to stay informed about local government.
Media inquiries about LUSI should be directed to City Clerk Millie Crossland, (816) 513-3325.
